Artist Statement

I am a costume designer, a history teacher, and a painter - three mediums of storytelling that are unrelated only on the surface. I am drawn to people who are caught between two worlds - they live in one place but long to be in another; they are judged by what they look like instead of who they are. My paintings are about choosing to have a foot in both worlds, instead of constantly struggling to pick one path or the other.
